Before we moved from Arizona to the Heartland, we discussed all the wonderful places to which we would now have easy access for day trips and vacationettes. From here, there a whole helluva lot of places that are within range of a Kwach and Ev day trip, even if there's no e-Bay truck at the end of the asphalt rainbow. We've been here for a year and a half now, and we've been all over central and southern Illinois, large chunks of Indiana, an ample sampling of Missouri and way too much Nebraska. It's time to branch out.
We've decided to take a mini-vacation this weekend, but we haven't decided where to go. We're waffling between Nashville (which Cory says is nice, and where many of the bloggers we read call home, so it must have more going for it than just the Country Music Hall of Fame) and Memphis (which Cory says is not nice, but it has Graceland and Beale Street and a plethora of faux Elvi to photograph ... and you know how we like a good photo op). Either of those are a three hour drive. If it were a long weekend I'd be voting for Biloxi and the annual seafood fest and gumbo cook off, but it would have to be some damn fine gumbo to drive 9 hours for.
So, what say you? If you were Kwachie and Ev and you had two days to burn, where would you go? Please feel free to include tourist-y tips and recommendations.

i'd head north into michigan, rather than east to tennessee. or into chicago. country music and faux elvi do nothing for me.
the leaves will be pretty...
I think you should go to Cow Days in Greensburg Kentucky. You may come home with a calf which would be way more cool than a crappy e-bay truck. The least they have a life size plastic cow and, Kwach can practice milking. Or enter the pipe smoking contest. Cumberland County has a great bluegrass fest. Save Biloxi for next year and, I will meet you there. :Diane
OOoohhh ... Evie! Calves and a life-sized plastic cow to milk!
*big winsome smile*
But, I'm sorry...she said way more cool than a crappy eBay pickup truck.
Diane, there's NOTHING cooler that a $300 eBay pickup truck. NOTHING.
Now go sit in the corner until you're ready to apologize. :-)
Oh come on Ev. You know I meant for Kwach.........way more cool. I'm still with ya when it comes to lawn worship and, e-bay trucks.;):Diane
MEMPHIS all the way. Oh, the eats are good and Graceland is way too fun. If not that, then Chicago. Maybe you can hang out with my mom. Ha ha. You'll need a vacation to recover from that...
I want to do the Chicago trip someday. That's where Ev grew up, and I haven't been there since 1971. It's probably changed some.
I think we've pretty much settled on Memhis. Now, let's just hope there are no exploding cat eyes or automotive woes to stand in the way of our success!
Graceland! Woo!
