Extreme Tiredness

I'm tired.

I'm tired in that way that people are tired when they finally sit down after running around achieving for days and days. We've toted so much furniture in the last week that I'm tempted to burn the shed with the rest of our stuff in it...if only I didn't need the shed and the tools inside for the duck house I'm going to build. Later. When I'm less tired.

My brain is foggy, my arthritis is flaring, and I'm covered in bruises. Lucky thing I'm a saint; otherwise I'd call in at work..if we weren't down to rock-bottom minimum staffing. Unfortunately, we're so short of warm bodies that if anyone gets sick one of the day shifters (not to be confused with shape shifters) has to stay over and work a double shift in order to be compliant with FDA minimum staffing requirements.

So...I'll go. But what I'd really like to do is call in, stay in my jammies all day, read trashy mystery novels, and recharge my batteries.

That's how my severely understaffed pharmacy job was. I ended up missing 3 months of work due to tendonitis in my right hand (not to mention the fact I couldn't use my hand for those 3 months). So be careful!

My theory about workplace dynamics is that managers become intentionally, studiously oblivious when they're understaffed, because if you look at how your worker bees are wearing down, you have to do something. So it's better not to look.

Eventually, they have no choice but to look, since at that point employees are melting down like ice cream in the sun. I think we're almost there.

my office has been short-staffed for about 18 months now. we have fewer people doing more things than ever before.

fortunately, the manager has been diligently trying to get us back to full staffing as soon as possible. unfortunately, i work in a state agency, with all the hiring pitfalls that go along with it. it sucks being a worker bee in a short-staffed office, regardless of the kind of job you do.

hang in there, ev...it'll get better eventually.

Wow, what is about hospitals around here and being short-staffed. We were told not long ago by our CEO to basically suck it up and get over it - that if we had 5 people before and now we only have 3, too bad, buck up and get busy as that was just how it was going to be. Um, bite my left...oh anyway...

Now, that I've added that depressing little note here, I do hope things get better soon! Hang in there and try not to melt! =)

Ev, why are you building a duck house? I mean, ducks like to get wet and they fly south for the winter. Are you needing something to do? I got a fence that needs building if ya are...
